BATTLE OF THE GIANTS- My Analysis

What more can be said about this wage war to reach the final of the 2010 gold! It would seem more like the déjà-vu of the UEFA Euro 2008 final, except for the fact that Spain has not regained its convincing form while Germany has already eliminated the two major contenders, Argentina and England, out of the Cup.

The predictions for the win, at the moment, weigh more towards the Deutschland as it is obviously on a roll having disposed of heavy oppositions without too much fuss. For the upcoming match, it is really hard to make-up the loss for the suspended Thomas Mueller for the Germans but the greats such as Schweinsteiger, Khedira, Klose and Ozil are, still, the limelight of their side who can make or break the match with their wit.

However, The Red Fury has had trouble scoring in this tournament, partly because of a great many misfires made by the striker Fernando Torres who had returned from injury and has since struggled to make an impact. Because of the ample quantity of world class players in The European Champion’s squad, the men in red were considered co-favorites with Brazil before the start of the world cup. La Furia Roja can thrash the men in White quite easily if they keep their defense as hard as a nutshell and if the forwards make use of every opportunity they get. David Villa’s nose for goal and his creativity to make chances out of nothing should be exercised by others also such as Iniesta, Pedro, Fabregas, Torres and Ramos. For Spain to grab the place in the last two, there has got to be a team effort.

Villa: Spanish savior

Spain has an edge in goal with the goal keeping maestro, Iker Casillas over Manuel Neuer.  Both have performed well with minimal errors, but Casillas' experience could be a factor at some point. Germany possesses all the power in this world to destroy Spain the same way as it did with the South Americans and the others who came in their way but Spain has also the “thing” in its squad to make the opposition exhaust as they did with the Portugese.

History has a vote for Germany. The biggest World Cup match the two sides have had came in Spain 1982. West Germany ended Spain's hopes of hoisting the World Cup on home soil by beating La Roja 2-0 in Madrid, eliminating the squad from the tournament in the second group phase. West Germany also defeated Spain 2-1 in the group phase of the 1966 World Cup in England whereas, Germany and Spain tied 1-1 in the group phase of the 1994 tournament hosted by the United States. The three World Cup trophies in the possession of the Germans is an additional merit on their side as La Roja has never lifted any World Cup crown as yet.

Euro Final

This face-off is going to be one of the most anticipated in the history of FIFA. The current European Champions taking on the team who has reached the semi-final stage six times in the last eight of its World Cups. For all the soccer fans out there, I have got these words  “Do not underestimate Spain as it can whip the opposition off in the times you don’t want it to and also do not expect too much of Germany because, you never know, UEFA 2008 Final might repeat itself.”
